Particular attention will be given to the question of research training in the US, through the prism of American art and design schools. Four exclusive sessions, conceived in collaboration with the MIT Academy of Design (MIT MAD/Morningside Academy for Design), the Californian ROSKI School of Art and Design (University of Southern California, USC) and the US Foundation will explore the conference’s themes at an international level.

A in-depth study of research training in France will be carried out in parallel in sessions involving several French and international art schools. This will focus on adapting design tools to the exercise of thesis writing. From former students, experts in disciplinary fields relating to such themes, as well as others, outsiders to the world of design and to art, will share their experiences and evoke the impact of this type of research on their practises. Discussions will also focus on exploring the tools, approaches and working methods used to prepare design theses in art and design dissertations in Art and Design schools. Particular attention will be given to the potential use of tools created by researchers themselves in the framework of their teaching.

An exploration of paradigms and issues of publicising in the framework of art and design. The first aspect of this task enfolds the conceptualisation and precise definition of terms, thus establishing a rigorous semantic framework. We will examine dissemination strategies, evaluating the mechanisms by which research can be made accessible to a wider public, in the academic community and public domain alike. The ethical implications of the publicising of research in art and design will be shared, underlining the importance of intellectual integrity and social responsibility in this dynamic process. In combining these reflections, this analytical approach seeks to provide a solid base for the promotion and comprehension of research in art and design in an academic and societal context.
